    Sorry about the repeat.

I wanted to draw attention to the very informative column by Geoffrey Palmer regarding the Regulatory Standards Bill. Cuts to the chase in clinical passionate way. The comments below the column are also very telling. (Note that Geoffrey has been denied the opportunity to speak to the Select Committee.)

    Ditto.

I posted the other day about the nurses pay negotiations stopping abruptly without explanation.

Te Whatu Ora have come back with a revised offer that is worse in a few areas.

They are proposing to remove the allowance that was paid for tikanga training that was then used in the hospital. Folks do it on their own time at their own expense.

Then there is a kaupapa Maori resolution aspect that is to cease.(I'm away from laptop and don't have a wider explanation of what that is.)

A shift coordinating allowance that was paid to those that do 10 and 12 hours shift is to cease. It will only be paid for 8 hour shifts…

Oh and by the way, Te Whatu Ora is demanding that this be sorted by July 31st.

This is worse than death by 1000 cuts.

It's a continued assault on Maoritanga and female workers. (Apologies to all our make nurse comrades).

This is similar to treatment we received under National during my time in teaching. Our pay went up from 42000 to 45.700 in ten years. They also took 30% tax off our pension GSF fund. They put a surcharge on my Mum's pension. Real "good management of workers and poor pay, sorted stayed sorted"

When war criminals run the shop.

      /

IDF officers and soldiers told Haaretz they were ordered to fire at unarmed crowds near food distribution sites in Gaza, even when no threat was present. Hundreds of Palestinians have been killed, prompting the military prosecution to call for a review into possible war crimes ■ Netanyahu, Katz reject claims, call them 'blood libels

      […]

Israeli soldiers in Gaza told Haaretz that the army has deliberately fired at Palestinians near aid distribution sites over the past month.

Conversations with officers and soldiers reveal that commanders ordered troops to shoot at crowds to drive them away or disperse them, even though it was clear they posed no threat.

BEERSHEBA, Israel (AP) — American contractors guarding aid distribution sites in Gaza are using live ammunition and stun grenades as hungry Palestinians scramble for food, according to accounts and videos obtained by The Associated Press.

Two U.S. contractors, speaking to the AP on condition of anonymity because they were revealing their employers’ internal operations, said they were coming forward because they were disturbed by what they considered dangerous and irresponsible practices. They said the security staff hired were often unqualified, unvetted, heavily armed and seemed to have an open license to do whatever they wished.

They said their colleagues regularly lobbed stun grenades and pepper spray in the direction of the Palestinians. One contractor said bullets were fired in all directions — in the air, into the ground and at times toward the Palestinians, recalling at least one instance where he thought someone had been hit.

      […]

“I don’t want this to be too aggressive,” he adds, “because this is calming down.”

At that moment, bursts of gunfire erupt close by, at least 15 shots. “Whoo! Whoo!” one contractor yelps.

“I think you hit one,” one says.

Then comes a shout: “Hell, yeah, boy!”

I've just read the opine of Ian Taylor.

You really need to read it with his opinion* before the 2023 election to perceive his masterful appreciation of our political circumstance (he has already conceded he was wrong*).

It is only by comparing our lockdown period with that of the only other nation of the like, Australia, that some semblance of perspective occurs. That takes all the politics out of it, given a Liberal leader was in power over there.

As is common there is the breathtakingly original insight that the kindness brand was impacted by having to manage a pandemic, because neither the lockdown, nor mandates were kind to all.

Of course in kindness she opened up a link to Oz, despite an outbreak in Victoria (via NSW back to us) and this resulted in the Auckland lockdown. More kindness would have had the same result.

“Reports say you received over a million dollars in advance for your memoir, A Different Kind of Power. It’s a striking figure, especially for someone who once made child poverty her personal mission.

This is such petty nastiness, that one has to wonder at the silos of the public that he inhabites and that which influenced its writing.

The rest is that as Ardern did did not change the world she left us all without hope.

Bozos who voted for the C of C (and Trump in the USA) did that, Taylor included.

Labour would have funded the food in schools, and funded food banks etc, it would have built another 9,000 state houses (it was at 3000 a year by 2023).

We do know that a Labour-Green coalition would have had housing, incomes (pay equity, a higher MW and FPA) and public health as a priority.

The Christchurch Call has failed to limit on-line violence and hate, and Brian Tamaki and his Destiny Church still feel free to march in Aotearoa spewing their anti-immigrant vitriol.

Apparently she is somehow to blame for those who opposed her policies, before during and after her period in governance.

Children are still suffering from poverty

Those who voted for the C of C knew that was not their priority. Blaming that on a former PM is getting tiresome.

      Well said SPC.

Morning Report (on RadioNZ) is reporting today that many more homeless people are on the streets in Auckland. This is what happens when you stop building state houses.

Doubtless this will cause the government Ian Taylor voted for to further cut RadioNZ's funding.

Totally agree with you both. But the need to slur Ardern, Labour and the Greens is the only thing that protects them from electoral oblivion. This tsunami of propaganda will continue.

I searched Ian Taylor wanker……and there he was.
